an apprenticeship with place, something reciprocal. Something that takes time.

Thank you Carri. It's been raining so much lately for mid July. Even walking through the grass in the garden gets me soaked, but I like the idea that if you're going to be indigenous to the British Isles then you have to be willing to get wet!

I live in South Africa, near Cape Town, so we are in the middle of winter. We've just experienced a series of storms, and last week a number of houses in our village flooded, including parts of ours. Last Thursday morning, I waded to my gate through a garden that was completely underwater. Parts of it washed away. I love winter and rain, but this was a bit overwhelming.

I hope your people over there are all ok. My home town in the UK gets flooded every few years, but no one dies. Some people move into house boats instead of brick and mortar.
